Preparing Your Home for Spring

There is a distinct shift as we move into spring; longer days, softer light, fresher air. It invites a sense of renewal, not only in nature but within our homes.

Marking the season needn’t mean embarking on a full redesign. Often, it is the quieter, more considered adjustments that truly transform how a space feels.

Here is where I recommend beginning.

1. Edit Before You Add

Before introducing anything new, take something away.

Winter has a way of encouraging accumulation - layered textiles, fuller shelves, the inevitable “temporary” piles. Spring calls for restraint. Clear hallways, refine surfaces and pare back decorative objects.

When a room is thoughtfully edited, it feels lighter, calmer and more expansive. Allow the architecture and the natural light to reassert itself.

2. Lighten the Details

Accessories are often the quickest way to shift the mood of a room.

Replace weightier winter pieces with lighter ceramics and simpler forms. Introduce softer tones. Bring out smaller vases and fill them with seasonal stems; few things signal the arrival of spring more elegantly than a vase of daffodils on the kitchen table.

This is not about buying more, but about rotating and refining what you already own.

3. Reawaken the Exterior

If you are fortunate enough to have an outdoor space, however modest, treat it as an extension of your interior.

Sweep patios, wash down furniture and begin planting bulbs or early seasonal flowers. Even a pair of well-considered planters by the front door can shift the entire approach to your home.

The exterior is the opening chapter; it quietly sets the tone before you cross the threshold.

4. Reset Transitional Spaces

Hallways and utility areas often bear the visual weight of winter.

Exchange heavy coats for lighter jackets, edit shoe storage and clear surfaces. These practical adjustments immediately create a sense of ease and spaciousness, aligning your home with the lighter rhythm of the season.

5. Curate Your Memories

Spring is synonymous with new energy.

Take a moment to refresh the photographs displayed around your home. Print recent memories, rotate frames and choose images that reflect where you are now - not simply where you have been.

It is a subtle gesture, yet one that reconnects your home to your present life.

A Considered Seasonal Shift

Preparing your home for spring is not about perfection; it is about intention.

Edit thoughtfully. Invite in natural light. Introduce gentle colour and greenery.

When your interior reflects the changing season, the effect is quietly transformative; not only aesthetically, but emotionally too.
